If you are a PCBoard sysop and if you use long-line descriptions, you
might want to take a look at the program COPYDESC.ZIP. This program
will read short-line descriptions and copy them to a long-line file,
parsing and packing the text so everything fits properly. The starting
position of the new text is adjustable by the user as is the position of
the '|' character. The program is free and includes Turbo C source.
It might work in the PCBTEST environment, but I haven't tested it that
way. It was written for off-line purposes. Given the way PCBoard plugs
the uploader's name in after the description is processed, this could
only work satisfactorily on the upload DIR file itself.
This is version 1, and I don't intend to make a business out of this
program. If you do find a bug or idiocyncracy, you can leave a message
here. I do know that it stuffs blanks between split-line hyphenated
words. Since that doesn't bother me, consider that "by design". <g>
Also, it might try to compress unique separator lines. That would be
because of the test I use to determine the first line of a description.
Since the source is included, one could make an adjustment for that
on their own. Of course, if there is a prefered method of determining
the first line of the description, I will happily adjust.
Meanwhile, there aren't many of us who use long liners. If you do,
maybe this will be helpful to you. It sure saves time for me!
